16. Sedruola Maruska
A life dedicated to social justice, equity, inclusion, and sharing hope and love with anyone who cares to listen.
This week on the podcast I am going to share with you my conversation with Sedrula Maruska, or Seide as she goes by.
Seide is a social justice, equity, inclusion and diversity consultant and coach, host of the Diversity Dish podcast, speaker and aspiring author. She has a passion for helping individuals in business cultivate cultures of equity and inclusion, so they attract the diverse partnerships they desire.
She is a first generation Haitian-American, wife and mother who prides herself on having an amazing extended family network and being a citizen of the world born in Queens, New York.
We talked about her experiences with racism growing up, how be a better ally and much more.
Seide is a wonderful person with so much to share and teach us. The more time I spent working on this episode the more I learned as she has so many great things to say. Don’t be afraid to listen more than once to catch it all too!
One thing that I particularly loved about my conversation with Seide is that she encouraged me to be uncomfortable in my ally journey. If you’ve been listening for a while you know that I believe it is so important for us to push ourselves outside of our comfort zones, especially when we are trying to become better allies.
I am always concerned about offending someone with a question that I may ask and Seide’s advice that I probably will offend someone gives me some anxiety. But the truth that she is leading us to is that discomfort is inevitable. I will never grow if I wait for myself to be perfect before I start acting. So if I want to make a real lasting impact, I need to come to terms with my imperfections and not let those get in the way of my growth so that I can do better the next time.
