About the Pod
Welcome to the Epics Podcast where we tell Epic Stories from Epic People. My name is Alex Wait and like you, I am no longer comfortable being ignorant of the systemic problems of discrimination in our world that continue to dismiss others. The problem that I see in this world is that we do not understand those who are different from us and that lack of understanding is the cornerstone for hate and discrimination.
I am seeking to better understand myself, my own privilege and prejudice, and my brothers and sisters who are different from me, becoming a better ally. I believe that if we push ourselves out of our comfort zones we create more room for growth. We will look for stories that may make us uncomfortable but will help us grow.
Through interviews and reflection, on the Epics Podcast, we will hear from the “ordinary”, the ignored and the broken of our communities, and what their stories are. Together, we will work to gain an understanding of hardships that are unfamiliar to us. Hearing someone's unique story has the ability to show you their humanity. Once we start to see the humanity in others we are able to relate to them, and start to understand one another by finding common ground with one another from which we can start creating real change.
We have not yet been told all of the stories worth telling.

So this all started because I feel drawn to the space of social justice but struggled with what my role should be in that space as a straight white man. The result of all that wrestling was the idea for this podcast and helping people tell their stories!
I believe that the foundation of hate and discrimination in our world is the lack of understanding of those who are different form ourselves. If we are able to open ourselves up to hear someone’s story then we are able to glimpse their humanity, which is so easily hidden and lost today, helping us to better understand them and their struggles and hopefully allow us to be more accepting and compassionate towards others.
I want this experience to be authentic and relatable without shying away from hard conversations or uncomfortable questions (or answers). The intention of this podcast is not to appear as a social justice expert or any version of a white savior but rather to try and show that I have a lot to learn as well and be vulnerable myself in sharing my journey on the podcast.
I had the idea and intention of starting this podcast over a year ago and never pulled the trigger because I was too afraid of starting and failing. The idea was for it originally to hopefully grow from hobby and side project to potentially full time gig but after I lost my second job during COVID I decided to try and pursue it full time from the get go! I know it’s a slow process to grow a podcast from the ground up but I’m loving it so far and the lifestyle that it allows me to have at home with my wife and 2 boys!
