24. Janell Jones
Breaking Barriers and Empowering Women. From teenage mom to best selling author.
This week we have an amazing guest on the show, Dr. Janell Jones. Janell is a fellow podcaster, TEDx speaker, certified life coach, national and international bestselling author, and a licensed clinical therapist. She was born into poverty and raised in the projects of Columbus, Ohio, where she lost her father and sister to intercity violence as a child and was a teenage mother at 17.
Janell has overcome so many obstacles to become an inspiring leader in the community. She has founded her own company, Melon and Grace Publishing, and created Mahogany Beautiful Bright Me program to help girls with self love and self acceptance. She also has the Girl You Got This podcast to empower women to live their dreams.
We discussed many things, including her experience of teen pregnancy, how that impacted her journey, as well as all the barriers that she had to overcome to become the first generation high school graduate on route to earning her master's degree, writing several books and starting so many businesses and doing so many great things to support and empower women.
There is so much that is important for all of us to hear from your story, Janelle, and what has been sticking with me is how important it was for you to break the generational cycles that you had in your life but to empower other women to do the same. Like you said on the show, many of them don’t know that they have the power to change their lives and I’m so grateful that so many now have you to help them discover that!
