Dealing with online hate after time in the public eye.

Amanda Micallef is an Australian based strength coach and relationship podcaster where she interviews Relationship Coaches from all over the world bringing to the forefront an operation manual for navigating romantic relationships. She appeared on Married At First Sight Australia season 7 in 2020 as one half of the first ever lesbian couple. She is a sneaker collector and loves all things fashion.

On her podcast, The Empowered Women’s Podcast, she interviews relationship coaches from all over the world to share their expertise on relationships to create an audio operation manual for navigating romantic relationships.

She appeared on the 7th season of the Australian reality TV show Married at First Sight in 2020 as one half of the first ever lesbian couple and we spent our interview today talking about the internet backlash that she experienced as a part of being on the show.

Amanda talked about the impact that these hate messages have had on her, and how she deals with these trolls.

You may have noticed that this episode of the podcast has been marked explicit, and that is due to her vast Australian vocabulary. Of course I have no desire to censor her in any way because I want everyone to be their true authentic selves on this show, but just be aware that you might not want your kids in the car for this one.

Along those lines, Amanda expresses some opinions in this interview that don’t necessarily reflect the views of the podcast, but similarly I did not want to edit them out because that is a part of what this podcast is all about. We can have different opinions and still see the value and inspiration in a person’s story.

And all that being said, that Amanda has an epic story to share and I had a blast with this interview and I believe that this is a topic that is very important for our society to hear and talk more about.

We don’t have to agree with everything that they say to support them. Amanda shared that she struggles with the LGBTQ community standing behind the trans community and that seemed to come from a place of fear of being further marginalized within her community. While I don’t agree with her, we have to hear her out and not attack her for her opinion because we can’t always stand in her shoes.

That being said, I do want to announce that we are going to have a trans-man on the podcast next week, whom I absolutely adore! So be sure not to miss that.

I thought that Amanda brought so much to the podcast and I felt that her side of the story is one that we so often don’t talk about. We need to remember that just because someone is experiencing a level of fame that we may dream of doesn’t mean that they aren’t people too, and that means that we shouldn’t stop acting like decent people towards them just because they have something that we don’t.
